One-to-One Perinatal Mental Health Support
Support in the Perinatal Period
The perinatal period is the time from the start of your pregnancy until your baby turns two years old.
This is a difficult time for many parents and it is common to find yourself struggling mentally and emotionally.
The important thing to know is you don't need to struggle on alone, getting help really does make a difference!

At Nurture the Borders we provide a range of carefully-developed services to support the varying needs you may have at this time.

We know that there’s no ‘one size fits all’ approach to recovery from perinatal mental health challenges. We are here to support your unique journey and tailor our support to you.

Here is our step by step guide to our support pathway:

Step One
If you are expecting a baby or have a little one under two and you find yourself struggling mentally or emotionally and would like help, then the first step is to make a referral.

We accept self-referrals and you don't need to have a formal diagnosis. We also accept third party referrals (so long as the parent has consented), so your partner, health visitor, midwife or doctor can also make a referral for you.
Step Two
We will send you a message to let you know we have received your referral and let you know our current waiting time. While you are waiting for one-to-one support you can access our support groups.
We will then allocate you a Perinatal Support Officer (PSO). Your PSO will meet with you to welcome you into the service. We understand that it can be difficult to leave the house and so we will visit you at home.
During this meeting your PSO will spend time getting to know you and understand the challenges you are facing. They will tell you more about our support services and look at how we can best support you.
Step Three
Your PSO will work with you to help establish your hopes and goals for support. They will work together with you to identify which of our service, therapies and resources would help as well as any external service that may be beneficial and support you to access to these. They will then develop a flexible support plan for you.
Your PSO will support your journey through our service as a consistent point of contact and support. All our PSOs are highly skilled and are able offer:
-
outreach visits,
-
emotional and practical support,
-
essential tools to enhance wellbeing and build confidence,
-
up to date, evidence-based perinatal information & education,
-
support to access services, advocacy, signposting, and mentoring.

Alongside this support your individual support plan may include some of the following:
